In the Career Development classes, students toured a LifeNet ambulance and learned what it takes to become a dispatcher, EMT, or paramedic. Madison Yarbrough will be the second student from Poyen High School to compete at the Intel ISEF in the school’s history. Hancock was one of three online instructors nationwide to earn the honor.Karis Sullivant won first place in the Biomedical and Health Sciences division with her project investigating proteins that interfere with the normal cell cycle process after organ injury. Karis became interested in her study during her 2018 summer research internship at Vanderbilt University as she worked with research related to fibrosis in kidneys. A group gathered Tuesday, March 12, 2019 to form a committee to discuss the upcoming Courthouse Christmas Decorations fundraiser scheduled for Friday, April 5, 2019 at the courthouse pavilion. Madi Wilfong won first place in the Plant Sciences division with her project investigating the possibility of extracting natural pigments to develop a non-allergenic green dye from immature soybeans. Madi as a personal interest in ADHD and its causes. During research conducted for a project in her current Chemistry course, she found literature citing a link between ADHD misdiagnosis and artificial dyes. Madison Yarbrough won first place in Cellular and Molecular Biology division with her project investigating a rare genetic disease called Alport Syndrome (AS).  Her work involves studying the collagen mutation that leads to AS. Blue & You Foundation presented Hot Spring County a grant of $54,240 in January 2019 for volunteer firefighters. On Monday, March 11, 2019, each of the 11 certified Hot Spring County Fire Departments received two new suits. This grant will provide 22 firefighters with complete protective turnout suits.
