LR faces lawsuit over fatal vehicle accident

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The city of Little Rock faces a second wrongful death lawsuit in the case of a woman and her son being stranded in a submerged vehicle in January 2013.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that Jinglei Yi's vehicle slid into a pond after hitting a patch of black ice. The 911 dispatcher who took her call immediately sent an ambulance to the scene, but not police officers or water rescue crews.

The latest lawsuit alleges that Yi's death was caused by an underfunded and understaffed 911 call center.

A city spokesman said Tuesday that the city hasn't yet been served with the lawsuit.

The first suit was filed on behalf of Yi's 5-year-old son, Le Yang, who died this year. His family said it was from drowning-related injuries.
